![]() If you want the other side to have helicopters you can turn everything else off and give them helicopters. If you only want one side to have tanks you can turn everything else off and just have tanks. So you can certainly restrict any of those vehicles if you don’t like them. Battlefield 3 has a lot of vehicles, but 2042 has even more. What we’re offering at launch is, you’ll get the full suite of vehicles for that team that you’re playing as, whatever that looks like. There are a lot of technical hurdles around vehicles and players combined with vehicles. Will players be able to edit how many vehicles are present in a match? In a match with 128 players, can I have them all in tanks or helicopters? So, long-term plans are certainly things that we’ve been discussing, things that we’ve been thinking about, but in terms of what is going to happen in the future, certainly the next Battlefield title, I don’t know what it is or when it’s coming out, so that’s a little too far out. We’ve been laser-focused on what we’re going to have at launch, what we’re going to be able to ship when 2042 comes out all at once. Unfortunately, I’ve got to go back home after this interview and get back to work shipping this thing, because we’ve only got a couple of months left. Is Battlefield Portal something that will persist in future Battlefield titles past 2042? We don’t want to take away from 2042, but we think that there’s a large enough Battlefield ecosystem that players can go from All-Out Warfare to a Battlefield Portal kind of experience either day to day or in the same session. We think that we’re on to something really special, and we really hope that the community receives it warmly and that it becomes something that is really popular. I’m not going to speak to Halo 3‘s custom games, but we’ve been, as a studio, developing Battlefield Portal in secret for quite some time, and we’ve been talking about it, we’ve been playtesting it, we’ve been discussing it. What are you shooting for with Battlefield Portal’s player experience? Is this something for players to toy around with or something that takes up a larger chunk of their time like Halo 3‘s custom games? You can use arrays, variables and all kinds of math to create truly unique game modes if you’re prepared to learn the systems. ![]() There aren’t many sliders or drag and drop elements here as it functions a lot more like actual programming. One element of the tool that is worth checking out if you’re an advanced user is the Rules Editor section. This will then pull your custom mode into the game, and you’ll be able to play it online with your friends. Once you’ve finished modifying on the website, if you tap finish you’ll be sent an Experience Code, which you can plug into Battlefield 2042 in the portal hub, under the Experience Code tab. If you want to send specialists up against World War 2 engineers or build alternate history battles, the Battlefield Builder tool is here to help. ![]() The fun part comes in the Restrictions tab, where you’re able to pick and choose between characters, weapons, vehicles and gadgets from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 2042. You’ll pick your game mode and then be able to tweak several rules like game time, maximum players, weather events, projectile speed, headshot damage multipliers, vehicle spawn delays and even UI elements. The tool is easy to use and will lead you through the process in comfort. There’s a QR code in-game that you can use to zip to the website if you need it. This is an external, browser-based tool that lets you create your own modes. However, if you want to make an experience that is completely your own, you need to head to the Battlefield Builder at (opens in new tab). Within the Battlefield Portal hub, head to the Host tab and you’ll be able to host official and custom experiences from within Battlefield 2042, which is an easy way to play games with your friends. When you do get tired of playing other players’ custom game modes, you may want to try your hand at making your own.
